One of the main things that drives people to move is family. They’re either moving to be closer to family, or they’re looking for a job to provide for their family, or they’re looking for a good place to raise their family. Moving is such a big change, so you want to make sure you choose the right place to settle down with your little ones. This is exactly why my family chose to move to Boise in 1999, just after I was born. They had my brother and I at the time and wanted to find a home in an area that they knew would be safe, have fulfilling jobs, well-structured schools, and lots of opportunity. The answer was clear: Boise, Idaho was the place.
My family wasn’t the only one that found this to be a good decision. Boise’s population has grown from 168,270 people in 1999 to 228,790 in 2019; and Idaho’s population as a whole is expected to increase 15% more by 2025. The bliss found in Boise used to be called the best-kept secret, but now, the secret’s out. It’s no wonder people can’t stop talking about living here!
So let’s look at the facts. What has drawn all these families to Boise over the last 20 years? U.S. News And World Report ranked Boise 25th among the most affordable places to live in the United States in 2018. Newsweek also ranked Boise as the 17th best place to raise a family in 2018 because it’s safe and offers easy access to family fun.
Another thing that’s important when raising a family is affordability. You want to give your family the best life for the best price. And Boise is known to be an affordable place to live. Did you know that the cost of goods and services in Idaho is less expensive than half of U.S. states? And what’s really great, is that while Boise might be smaller (and cheaper) than cities like Portland or Seattle, it still offers some of the amenities of a larger city.
There’s lots to see and do here! Take the kids biking or to the park or the river. Go skiing in the Wintertime or boating in the Summer. Boise even has different shows and concerts every weekend! Enjoy the opera, ballet, plays, or museums.
If you’re not convinced to raise your family in Boise yet, I think this will finally change your mind. Idaho has one of the lowest crime rates in the country. In 2017, MSN ranked Boise number 8 on the list of safest cities in the world, and its safety index of 82.29 means kids often walk home from school without worry, and many people don’t bother to lock their doors.
And lastly, Boise has the nicest people you will ever meet. One of my favorite things is how I can make conversation with anyone at the grocery store and they’re always helpful and have lots to say. Or if I smile at someone walking down the street, they always smile back. Everyone here acts like family. If you’re stuck on the side of the road, 10 people will stop to help you without batting an eye.
I’ve lived in Boise my whole life, and I can attest that I always felt safe, found amazing jobs, and loved being part of a friendly community. Growing up, my favorite thing about living here was how close I was to the downtown excitement, but also to the river and foothills and hikes. I remember when just 3 miles away from my house felt like no-man’s land, and now the growth stretches over 10 miles before we find fields again. Subdivisions dot the outskirts of the city, and farmland and foothills surround that. Yes, there are more rural places; yes, there are more urbane places. But Boise is a good place to live if you enjoy easy access to both. And it’s a great place to raise a family. I know for a fact this is where I’m going to raise mine.
“…A.J. was just flawless, he had the best recommendations every step of the way to make sure we picked everything perfectly. I couldn’t have imagined a better buying experience, from the very first minute until after we moved in.”
“The home buying experience was nothing like we thought it would be. Linda found a better mortgage rate and we bought a home in much less time than we had anticipated…everything worked in our favor. Thank you so much for making it happen!“
“Dan handled all the work of listing our home…every single part, all we had to do is make the decisions on which offer to pick. We are extremely happy with Accel and the service provided to us in selling our home…the buyer found it online, loved the virtual tour, and made an offer.”
“…extremely confident in dealing with the terms and negotiations from beginning to end, including the selling price. I was very impressed with all the support. Actually did a video walk-through before coming to Idaho…would recommend Alei five stars to anyone looking for real estate in Eagle.“
“My family noticed right away how sharp the photos and brochures looked, loved the 3-D Tour of the floorplan. Brandi told us the “details mattered” and that it’s the most important thing when selling your home. Thank you for all the work up front to make going-on-the-market stress free and selling for full price.“
“We thought buying our first house would be complicated…with Mick’s help we found one we love. There were multiple offers and ours was the one they accepted because our he knew how to negotiate for us. The best experience ever!“
