Idaho’s Secret is Out!

We have been saying for months, maybe years….the secret of Idaho is out. Now Vogue Magazine just picked Idaho as one of its “10 Hottest Travel Destinations of 2017”, and it’s the only spot on the list that doesn’t require you to get a passport or board an airplane. Exotic, foreign locations such as Oman, Madagascar, and Sri Lanka are listed and then there’s a singular U.S. destination…Idaho. That’s right, Idaho.

“Idaho is having a moment,” the magazine says. “The capital, Boise, may not have an Ace Hotel yet, but it’s quietly setting itself up to be one of America’s most desirable second-tier cities with hip lodging like the Modern Hotel + Bar, Inn at 500, indie coffee shops and real estate companies, creative hubs, tech companies, wine bars, and a serious craft beer selection. And then, of course, there’s the incredible access to the outdoors and river sports, including almost 200 miles of trails to hike, run and bike in the Boise Foothills.”

The Vogue article goes on to sing the praises of nearby Sun Valley, Idaho which it states is “often overlooked for glitzier mountain towns like Telluride, Park City, and Jackson Hole,” and comments, “think about Sun Valley as Aspen in the ‘60s.” It continues by mentioning the new heli-skiing operation in the Selkirk Mountains of Northern Idaho and “Hemingway’s beloved Sun Valley, while often overlooked for glitzier mountain towns like Telluride, Park City, and Jackson Hole is having a renaissance” View the selection of available Idaho Homes.

So, how did Idaho make this impressive list of hot spots? Vogue contributor Jen Murphy says, “Last year, savvy travelers flocked to Rio for the Olympics; Cuba because they could; and America’s national parks, to celebrate the 100th birthday of the natural wonders in their own backyards.” But in the coming year, the magazine predicts, “Travelers will venture off the beaten path, beyond each country’s tried-and-true holiday escapes.”

The fashion, beauty, and culture magazine singled out our beautiful Gem State as an “off the beaten path” mountain destination. The list ranked the country Georgia No. 1, and then ranked Oman; Langkawi, Malaysia; Madagascar; Sri Lanka; Trinidad and Tobago; Idaho; Jordan; Aarhus, Denmark; and Colombia in succession. Cheers to another mention in a Top-10 list. Way to go Idaho!
