Trying to find something fun to do in Boise over the weekend? Boise itself is a huge city filled with all sorts of fun activities. There’s also the city of Meridian which is extremely closeby! Check out these fun weekend activities in Boise and Meridian!
Visit the Aquarium of Boise
This epic aquarium is jam-packed with interactive exhibits and is about 10,000 square feet long! What is unusual about this specific aquarium is that you can actually touch the tanks filled with crabs, coral, starfish, and you can even pet some stingrays! There are also tanks that feature giant octopi, a shark nursery, and so much more. Aside from being an aquarium, they also have other attractions, such as a gift shop and a bird aviary (where you can feed the birds and have them sit on your shoulder!).
Boise River Greenbelt
Want to enjoy a walk in nature? The Boise River Greenbelt is an area of parks that spreads across 25 miles. It also follows along several banks of the Boise River. Since it mainly runs through the heart of Boise, you will be able to see all types of flowers, shrubs, wildlife, and scenic views of the city as you take your journey down the path. If you are more interested in biking, there is a bike path that you can ride for ten miles (just rent a bike from any of the renting booths downtown, or ride your own)! One of the hiking trails also features a fun scavenger hunt that shows much of the historical background of the city. No matter where you go on the Greenbelt, you are guaranteed to see some amazing sights!
Visit the Boise Art Museum
If you are an avid lover of art, the Boise Art Museum is the place for you. The museum contains a huge collection of modern artwork which is featured in both static and rotating exhibits. First opened in the 1930’s, the Boise Art Museum has been upgraded multiple times. Now, it spans over 30,000 square feet! This includes the main museum exhibit, an education center, a museum gift shop, and an outdoor sculpture garden. Each of the individual galleries have a certain style to them, so no matter what kind of art you enjoy most, you will most likely find it here.
The Boise Zoo is known for housing a huge number of species for all visitors to enjoy! It is divided into differently themed sections (for example Butterflies in Bloom and the Sloth Bear Encounter) and also has some interactive exhibits. One of these awesome exhibits is a small zoo farm where the kids can hand feed the farm animals. There are also animal presentations which are part of the zoo’s educational center to teach about all the animals that live in there. While you’re downtown, check out some incredible old Boise landmarks! Click here for a list of historical Boise sites!
This educational center is dedicated to all things scientific and technological. There are about four rooms filled with over 200 different exhibits that are all interactive and include the Bubble Wall, Turbulent Orb, and so much more! There are also fixed galleries which have rotating exhibits, as well as children’s classes held on Saturdays.
This option is technically in Meridian, but there is so much to do here that you could probably spend the whole weekend having fun in this area of town alone! With multiple stores like Charming Charlie and Anthropologie, places to eat (such as Chick-fil-A and Cafe Zupas), an ice skating rink in the winter, a bowling alley, and a large movie theatre, The Village is a place where you can bring the whole family, a group of friends, or even just enjoy some alone time perusing the shops!
Take a Hike up Table Rock
Table Rock is a hill that features a wonderful view of downtown Boise, as well as the surrounding cities, which is perfect for pictures (especially during sunset or sunrise photos)! You can go up one of two ways: hike up the trail in the front which zigzags in multiple directions, or drive up the back of the hill all the way to the top. If you do decide to hike, make sure you wear sturdy, broken-in hiking shoes. You should also have plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat with you. Since the hike itself takes about 45 minutes to complete, you should bring a friend!
Take a Kayak down the Payette River
Starting at Cascade Raft & Kayak (which is located about 45 minutes north of Boise), you can hire a professional guide to take you down the Payette River in either a raft or a kayak. The different adventures you can choose from are built for all skill levels (whether you are a professional or going down the river for the first time). Much of the rapids on the Payette River are class 2 and 3, so they are fairly mild and easy to navigate with a guide.
Idaho Shakespeare Festival
The Idaho Shakespeare Fest is an annual event held every summer in Boise which puts on high-quality shows in an outdoor theatre. To get the full experience of the show, bring a picnic to have on the lawn while you watch the show! Here, you will have a perfect view of the stage, but you will need to bring your own blanket and chairs. Make sure to bring bug spray and a sweater with you also. The Shakespeare Festival has its own cafe as well, so you can grab a salad, some wine, or dessert before the show or during intermission!
There are plenty of things to do in the Boise Area! Be sure to look around online and ask the locals what some of their favorite activities are! “…A.J. was just flawless, he had the best recommendations every step of the way to make sure we picked everything perfectly. I couldn’t have imagined a better buying experience, from the very first minute until after we moved in.”
“We thought buying our first house would be complicated…with Mick’s help we found one we love. There were multiple offers and ours was the one they accepted because our he knew how to negotiate for us. The best experience ever!“
“My family noticed right away how sharp the photos and brochures looked, loved the 3-D Tour of the floorplan. Brandi told us the “details mattered” and that it’s the most important thing when selling your home. Thank you for all the work up front to make going-on-the-market stress free and selling for full price.“
“The home buying experience was nothing like we thought it would be. Linda found a better mortgage rate and we bought a home in much less time than we had anticipated…everything worked in our favor. Thank you so much for making it happen!“
“Dan handled all the work of listing our home…every single part, all we had to do is make the decisions on which offer to pick. We are extremely happy with Accel and the service provided to us in selling our home…the buyer found it online, loved the virtual tour, and made an offer.”
“…extremely confident in dealing with the terms and negotiations from beginning to end, including the selling price. I was very impressed with all the support. Actually did a video walk-through before coming to Idaho…would recommend Alei five stars to anyone looking for real estate in Eagle.“
